Yesterday I did the 12 round workout at the Ring Boxing club. I’ve done it before, but it was different this time. I take it with “Big Tom” and that class seems to be a lot more cardio intensive (sprints, running up stairs, high knees, etc.) with more punching of the bag.
But this time it was with a different trainer, and it was really difficult…so many weight exercises, push ups, tricep dips, ab exercises, etc. My arms were shaking from barely being able to do all the reps he demanded and then I was told to get up and punch the bag.
My back and triceps are killing me today. I know this is good for me and these are the kinds of workouts I should be doing for tone, but I feel like I barely survived this workout. I’m not sure how many more of those I can do…I really hope it gets easier.
We did some Pilates in between the dances, which meant never ending leg lifts and clam shells.
My butt and the back of my things are so incredibly sore. Running tonight was a nightmare because my legs felt like a ton of bricks. I ended up only doing 5 miles instead of my usual mid-week 6…
I know taking the class was probably a mistake. I’ve over worked my legs before by lifting while training for a marathon and it was just bad news. Sigh…I’m hoping they feel better soon :(
I stepped out of my usual routine tonight and took a class called “Cardio Jazz Funk”. It was sort of like an aerobics class but we learned a dance sequence at the end and practiced it like 8 times before the end of the class. I used to learn these dances all the time when I was a cheerleader in high school, and they always came very natural too me. But tonight, it was almost like I forgot how to dance! It felt so strange, but I eventually got into it and realized how much I actually do miss dancing.
Then I went for a 3 mile run and worked on biceps and abs. I’m making it my goal to be able to do 5 pull ups and a decent amount of proper push ups in the next couple months. I really want to build my upper body strength. For some reason even hanging on the bar makes me anxious, so I’m really hoping I get over this!
Calf muscles! No wonder this one has been so sore lately…
I did this today with 5 lb weights in each hand, 3 sets of 15 reps…
and it KILLED. Maybe it’s because my arms were already sore, but oh my gosh. Definitely try it out!

Perfect, because now I can finally get to the gym by 6 and work out in the morning!! Yay.
Day 2 of swimming after my work out.
Arm progress?
Tonight I did HIIT for about 25 minutes.
This consisted of 1 min at a pace that I varied between 8.5 and 9.0 mph followed by 2 min at 6.0 mph.
Then I biked for 20 minutes.
Then I did some leg work - abductor, adductor, weighted squats, leg lifts
Ab work - reverse crunches, plank, hanging leg lifts
Then I came back kind of late and didn’t really feel like making a big dinner. So I made myself a banana scramble! These are so delicious, and if you haven’t tried making them yet, shame on you.
This is from Edible Perspective:
Cinnamon Banana Scramble
I put mine on whole grain toast with some Organic Berry fruit spread I got from SoWa Open Market this past weekend.

It was so delicious! YUM.
21 MILE RUN TOMORROW. LET’S GOO.
