The room I am subletting for the summer:

I still have some boxes I need to unpack and some organizing to do, but it’s getting there.

It’s kind of cute, no? It’s a pretty big room, so I have plenty of extra space and a nice size closet. I’m trying to make it more “homey” and my own, so that’s still in the process. Honestly, I hate bare walls…it makes me feel like I’m living in a prison.

I keep all my food/kitchen supplies (including a nice size mini fridge, magic bullet and toaster) in my room because I don’t really like sharing my things, and my food is definitely not up for grabs. I’m living with 4 other people I do not know, so I’m keeping all of my things to myself. They seem nice right now, though.

One of the doors goes out onto the back porch, which allows for great ventilation on hot days.

I am so excited to have my own room for the entire summer! Also, the location is great - I am so close to campus (work) and my boyfriend’s place. :)

I love living on my own and being independent of my parents.

Intake

You can go over to My Fitness Pal and take a look.

I’d love feedback on my intake, so message me if you have any comments.

I didn’t get to the gym today because I just ran out of time in my day, but I plan on working out tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.

I wanted to see what kind of numbers My Fitness Pal would come up with. I take everything it says with a grain of salt because I know it is not entirely accurate. I was a bit surprised how much I went over on carbs (however, I knew sugar would be an issue). Maybe I’m eating too much fruit?

I'd also strongly consider eating more protein. Not to be quite so forward, but in most of your foodly posts I notice you're lacking quite a bit.

Thank you for the tip. I know sometimes I do skip out on protein - I don’t eat as much meat anymore, the most I eat is chicken. I do eat a lot of greek yogurt, fish, peanut butter, tempeh, veggie burgers, and tofu.

I actually did have some chocolate milk after my workout to replace protein!

I've seen it work wonders for people, but it's all completely catabolic exercise, and once you stop, it stops working. It's more of a sculpting routine after a while.

Yeah, I guess that’s what I would be concerned about. I know 30 Day Shred has been great for many people too.

I have seen results in the past in just doing a normal ab routine 3 days a week at the gym with intense cardio, so I’ll just need to keep this up. I’m not sure if I would be able to fit in p90x or Insanity every day, and I don’t want to be really loud in my room in the early morning/late at night (I live in an apartment for the summer with 4 others).

p90x?

Are you saying I should do p90x? I’ve thought about it, actually.

Work out tonight and what I ate after:

Tonight I did HIIT for about 25 minutes.

This consisted of 1 min at a pace that I varied between 8.5 and 9.0 mph followed by 2 min at 6.0 mph.

Then I biked for 20 minutes.

Then I did some leg work - abductor, adductor, weighted squats, leg lifts

Ab work - reverse crunches, plank, hanging leg lifts

Then I came back kind of late and didn’t really feel like making a big dinner. So I made myself a banana scramble! These are so delicious, and if you haven’t tried making them yet, shame on you.

This is from Edible Perspective:

Cinnamon Banana Scramble

  • 3T rolled oats
  • 1T ground flax meal
  • 1T almond milk [or any milk]
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1t cinnamon
  • splash of vanilla
  • 1T unsweetened coconut
  • drizzle of maple syrup/honey/agave [optional]
  1. Mash banana until wet/egg-like with a fork.
  2. Mix in all other ingredients until holding together.  *The mixture will be very moist.  If it is very thick + dry add a 1/2-1T extra milk.
  3. Heat + grease a pan over medium heat.
  4. Plop the scramble into the pan and shape into a patty, about 1/2” thick.
  5. Cook for about 3min until browned.
  6. Toast bread or english muffin.
  7. Flip + cook until the other side is browned.
  8. Top on toast and slather with peanut butter or other nut butter and whatever other toppings you want.

I put mine on whole grain toast with some Organic Berry fruit spread I got from SoWa Open Market this past weekend.

It was so delicious! YUM.

A before picture for the beginning of summer...

Recently I noticed that I’ve lost a lot of definition in my stomach from not eating that great towards the end of the school year. I also really slacked off in keeping up my running after the marathon. I took a lot more time off than I had wanted to. It has gotten to the point that after 3 miles I’m dead tired. This is incredibly frustrating to me when I think about how I ran 26.2 miles without stopping about 2 months ago.

I’m getting back on track, no excuses. I’m gonna keep track of my intake just to see how I’m doing with unnecessary sugar consumption and perhaps extra calories.

I know I don’t look terrible, but I feel out of shape and far away from my fitness level during and before training for the marathon.

I also have been feeling SO bloated lately, which could be a reason why I feel this way. I’m expecting my period any day now…

I would REALLY like to do 30 Day Shred. I have the DVD, I just need to find the time and the extra equipment.

We’ll see how I do in tracking my intake and keeping up with my workouts within the next couple weeks.

I am making these pictures a before, and I will see positive changes this summer!

Whole Foods shopping experience

So today I slept in a little since I was just so exhausted yesterday. I don’t have official 8 hour work days yet, so I’m kind of just bumming around and running errands/going into the lab when I need to.

Today was going to be a better day for me, I wouldn’t let things get me down any more.

I decided to take a walk to Whole Foods because I have never actually been there. People keep telling me that I will love it, but I always avoid going because I’m worried I will spend way too much money. I decided I was only going for a few things and the most I would spend would be $25…I ended up spending $28. Oh well, close enough.

I ate this on the way home. It was $1.09, but I couldn’t resist…I never had this flavor before!

image

It was delicious. :)

So this is what I got at Whole Foods:

-Shredded Reduced Fat Unsweetened coconut

-Organic Spelt flour

-Chia Seeds (I have been looking for these everywhere!!)

-Lightly Salted Brown Rice cakes

-Vanilla Maple Arctic Zero!!

image

I was so excited that I found Arctic Zero, I have been dying to try that stuff.

So, I took a couple spoonfuls as soon as I got home. I actually really liked it!

image

Yum!! I can’t wait to have more of this later after my workout.

So now I’m off to the gym. I think I’m gonna do legs and abs today, 30 min of HIITs and a bike ride.

Let’s see how this goes. I’m really hoping it is better than yesterday…

Ugh I feel so bloated :(

This is not fun. I feel so gross and uncomfortable.

My workout today was also not fun. I don’t know what’s going on with me…UGH.
